He has completed over 30 real estate developments and investments, including land development, resort, residential for sale and rental, office, self-storage, and master planned communities.

Louis completed his undergraduate work at Washington & Lee University, and his law degree at The Washington College of Law, American University. He is a past winner of Institutional Investor’s Real Estate Deal of the Year. Since 2003 Louis has been a member of the NY State Common Retirement Fund Real Estate Committee, with current total assets of approximately $270 billion (as of Q1 2021). He is currently Chairman of the Governor’s Workforce Board of the state of Maryland. He is an active board member of the Patton Veteran’s Project, as well as a member of the steering committee for the Steers Center for Real Estate at Georgetown University. In addition, he has won many awards for his civic and professional work.

Jacques Gordon (MIT ’87) joined the MIT Center for Real Estate (CRE) as the first “Executive-in-Residence.” He was appointed as a Lecturer at the Center on January 1, 2023. As a Lecturer, Jacques will teach a course entitled, “Real Estate Portfolio Management: Principles and Practice” in its MSRED program, and advise master’s students on their thesis research.Jacques was a Global Strategist for LaSalle Investment Management, a global real estate investment manager with $82 billion in assets under management. LaSalle is an affiliate of the global real estate services firm, JLL, and had been a Center Partner for over 20 years. At LaSalle, Jacques had been responsible for the macro strategy and micro research used to guide investment decisions in 30 countries.He announced his retirement from LaSalle and will continue to serve on the Boards of the JLL Income Property Trust, The Real Estate Research Institute, and The Institute for Urban Research at the University of Pennsylvania. He currently co-chairs the Social Impact committee at PREA and serves as a founding member of LaSalle’s Climate Risk Task Force.

Jacques received the “Graaskamp Award” from the Pension Real Estate Association (PREA) for his contributions to real estate research and education. He originated the Jones Lang LaSalle Global Transparency Index in 1999, which has become the world standard for understanding international real estate.

Rick Courtney

Rick Courtney is a 39-year veteran of the multifamily industry. He serves as the CEO of Essential Realty Partners (Essential), a Dallas-based national real estate investment firm specializing in multifamily and built-to-rent (BTR) properties.

Over his career, Rick has transacted/managed over 17,000 multifamily units and 3.2 million square feet of commercial space nationwide. He has led private equity real estate platforms at the C-level for over 15 years and derived a unique insight industry insight from operating through multiple real estate cycles.

Rick is a licensed real estate broker in Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Texas, and has held Series 7, 22, 39 and 63 securities licenses. He also holds multiple professional designations, including Certified Occupancy Specialist (COS), Tax Credit Specialist (TCS), and Management and Occupancy Review Specialist (MORS) from the National Center for Housing Management. Additionally, he has been recognized with the elite Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) and Certified Property Manager (CPM) designations from the CCIM Institute and the Institute for Real Estate Management, respectively. Rick graduated cum laude from Pepperdine University’s Graziadio School of Business with a degree in Management.
